An industrial depot which was put up without permission next to the internationally renowned bird reserve at Cliffe must come down, a planning inspector has decided. Medway Council, supported by the RSPB, took action to remove the Thameside Terminal storage plant after enforcement notices issued to the owners were ignored.

The neighbouring RSPB Cliffe Pools Reserve is used by hundreds of thousands of migrating birds and is considered an area of natural importance.

The area also supports good populations of lizard, slow-worm, grass snake and adder. Indeed, KRAG visited the site earlier this year to discuss reptile management issues with the RSPB.
